Dr. Mark E. Mulholland Litigation, OBGYN at Kadlec in Richland, Washington

Earlier this year, Tamara Holder and her team settled the largest doctor-patient sexual abuse case in Illinois’ history, against OBGYN Fabio Ortega, which she spearheaded in 2019. Story here.

Now, Tamara Holder and Elizabeth Hanley from Schroeter Goldmark and Bender (SGB) represent over 100 female patients who accuse Dr. Mark E. Mulholland – another OBGYN – of physical and sexual abuse. He practiced between 1999 through 2025 in the Tri-Cities, specifically Richland, Washington at Kadlec Medical Center.

We have filed the lawsuits on behalf of Jane Doe 101, Jane Doe 102, Jane Doe 103, Jane Doe 104 against Dr. Mulholland and his employers, Providence Health & Services and Kadlec Regional Medical Center, for their failure to protect patients from sexual abuse and negligent medical treatment at Dr. Mulholland’s hands.
Numerous patients allege Kadlec was aware of serious concerns about Dr. Mulholland’s behavior, dating back as far as 2003, and Providence in 2014, once it began to operate in Tri-Cities. Despite these warnings, the institutions failed to make changes, violating their legal and ethical responsibilities to ensure patient safety and putting countless women at risk.
More than a hundred women have come forward, and many more may have been harmed. If you or someone you know may have been abused by Dr. Mulholland, please reach out to SGB or Tamara Holder Law today.  We are actively investigating these claims. You’re not alone, and your experience matters.

On April 29, 2025, the WASHINGTON MEDICAL COMMISSION, filed charges against Mulholland, based on three patients’ reports that:

  • He made inappropriate comments about patients’ physical appearances, including body shaming patients who were overweight and
  • He made implied sexual comments about patients’ vaginas.
  • During a bedside ultrasound, he pulled a patient’s pants down himself without asking for permission and did not drape the patient.
  • During a December 2022 appointment, Mulholland questioned Patient A about pain with intercourse, which Patient A denied, and posed specific questions about pain with vaginal penetration in a manner which made Patient A uncomfortable. He then performed a pelvic examination on Patient A and again posed questions about pain with penetration during the pelvic examination despite Patient A’s report that the pain was associated only with menstruation. Respondent further made comments about Patient A’s body unrelated to a medical purpose, including comments about the appearance and characteristics of the patient’s vagina.
  • During a November 2023 appointment, Mulholland used his hands to position Patient C on the examination table rather than instructing the patient to reposition herself. He placed his hands near the patient’s buttocks to move Patient B’s body and touching Patient B’s leg after the examination. After the examination was complete, Mulholland made comments about Patient B’s body unrelated to a medical purpose and said he was eager to see the patient’s vagina and was l”ooking forward to being reunited with her womb.”
  • During an August 2024 appointment, Mulholland asked Patient C about her masturbation practices in a way that made Patient C uncomfortable and unrelated to a legitimate medical purpose. After the examination was complete, Respondent rubbed Patient C’s shoulder and further commented on Patient C’s sexual activity unrelated to a legitimate medical purpose.
  • Two lawsuits against Mulholland have been filed by another firm. Their complaints allege similar behavior.
